About Us
It was identified by the emergency services in our local area that there was a higher incidence of falls among people living with dementia. This was resulting in higher call outs for the ambulance service and increased hospital admissions.
A number of different work streams were established to reduce incidents for people living in the community and in care homes. As an experienced Occupational Therapist working for the local authority, I believe it is important to consider prevention and provide information which can be used to support others. I have had an interest in falls throughout my professional career and more recently I have taken on a Dementia Focused Occupational Therapy role.
Staying Steady and Independent with Dementia leaflet was created in response to the high incidences of falls for people living with dementia. The leaflet provides general information to help reduce the chance of a person falling and is presented in a dementia friendly format. This toolkit was developed to supplement the subject areas covered in the leaflet and provide more detailed information for professionals to be able to access in one location.
All the information contained in this toolkit has either been produced by organisations who are specialists in their field or has been designed (by me) in consultation with colleagues and people with lived experience.
I hope you find this information helpful. Thank you for taking an interest and wanting to support people.
